here in the philippines, they have given several units to bloggers to (i guess) promote the virtual race on the 31st. each blogger probably got 5 to 10 units each and several discount vouchers as well for those who are interested in buying the sportband or the ipod sports kit. i got my SB by simply adding my name on a list of interested participants.

I'm starting to experience the same issue as Shripe has mentioned - a kind of pixel artifacting over top of the digits making it harder to read(especially at night under the street lamps). I've only had the unit for less than 2 months!!? Think I will be returning this one as it sounds like this issue only gets worse either that or go back to the sportkit with my Nano that seemed to work very good for me.

Exchanged my SportBand at the store where I purchased it with no issues at all. And now that I'm a happy Nike+ SportBand user again I can get back out there and kick up some more dust in my Challenges!!
Yaaa hoo! See you all out there!!!

We took my wife's band back for display issues. Now my is going out in the top right corner, it time to go back too, I only had 83 miles on it. It was fun while it lasted. I have a Garmin 305 GPS that works much better, just thought I'd try this one for fun. I really like most Nike products but maybe this one was not ready for market.

My 1st SportBand's LCD display went bust almost three months ago after only having it for two weeks and I was really frustrated/annoyed at the time. In fairness to Nike+ they replaced it for me and I had hoped that I would never have to set eyes upon this Forum Thread again. Unfortunately that was not to be.
Almost two weeks ago on Sunday 17.08.2008 I ran 10miles in the rain and noticed halfway through that my LCD display had once again accumulated condensation underneath covering almost half of it (http://forums.nike.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=201385 ). I can only guess that it was a combination of the cold rain and my body heat which generated this. After a number of hours though the condensation disappeared.
From that point onwards any other time I went for a run (generally late in the evening after cycling home from work) the condensation would reappear.
Then yesterday evening after taking three days off I went to get my SportBand and go for a run only to discover that half of the LCD display was after blacking out just like last time. This is incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I'm just after signing up for the Nike+ Human Race in London and now I'm not even sure if my SportBand will work on the day. It took me weeks to accurately calibrate it but now it's all been for nothing. It's only a matter of time before it completely blacks out and I'll have to replace it and calibrate a new one.
Ran 10miles last night and tonight regardless for the Nike+ Running League Challenge, barely distinguishing what the display was saying by interpreting whether the only visible dashed lines flashed or remained static. Afterwards the LCD display was worse than ever completely covered with condensation underneath.
I'm gutted! Best thing I can do now is hold on to the SportBand for the moment and hope that it survives long enough to record the Human Race and whatever other running I do over in London. As a backup plan I'll buy a replacement tomorrow before getting the ferry across to London. Should the other one fail I can use that instead but it won't be calibrated which generally means I'll lose 20% of any mileage I clock up. Still it's better than nothing. Then when I return to Ireland I can return it to the same shop where I bought it and try and get a refund. They sorted me out the last time so hopefully they'll do the same again.

Ditto for my sportband. Which, as I bought it several months back, I no longer have the packaging or receipt for. I went on holiday, carefully packing my sportband inside a sock inside a pocket inside my handbag... only to find when I turned up at my destination that the display now has dodgy pixels all over the left hand side, making it near impossible to read when standing still, with no chance of reading when actually running. A bit disappointing seeing as how it wasn't rainy or sweaty in my bag to the best of my knowledge.

I'm on band number 4. If anyone from Nike is listening, Version 2.0 should also have a light.

Yup...
I've changed the third time and the display gone bad again. Well, I not asking refund...but will keep changing it until they have resolved the problem.
PS: for those out there, i think try to "waterproof" it by using a ziplock bag. I think the band is not really "water-resistant"

My 1st soprtband display went bad after a month. It fogged up after a long run, then the next day there was no visible display. I exchanged it thru Roadrunnersports, they sent me a new one, and somehow the second one has lasted almost 2 months, but now the second unit display fogs after I ran a half marathon on Labor day and the numbers are barely visible and top half is gone altogether. Unit still works but what good is it? I will not recommend this product to anyone until these issues are resolved. I purchased this specifically because I KNOW my IPOD is not water resistant and I do a lot of trail runs/races. Overall, I have enjoyed using the band but obviously the product was released before it was well tested, and we are the sucker guinea pigs.

Wow. I thought my luck was bad... misery loves company. My story might be a bit different.
My shipped replacement was already damaged before I took it out of the box.
Here is the one that I used: Didn't even get 50 miles on it till the display turned like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/imova/2840737379/
So, Nike shipped me a new one. For 8 bucks plus the cost to ship the old one back. It's okay. I'll take that. But I got the band in today, and it looked like it had the same issue NIB! I decided to see if it might go away when I plugged it in. Not so much: http://www.flickr.com/photos/imova/2841573434/
I think the replacement is even worse. I hope that Nike will ship me another one free of charge, and let me wait till that one gets here to ship both defective ones back. Arg.

Had the same thing happen to me. My display started missing pixels and was showing some moisture underneath the display on the sportsband. It was only 1 month old. I sent it back to nike and they honored the 1 year manufactures warranty. The replacement arrived in about 1 week. I do however now take some extra precautions with the sports band. I don't wash my hands with it on. If i'm running a race where coming in contact with water, like a mud-run, i'll put the sb in my spibelt, and/or wrap it in a plastic bag. I agree nike should make the SB more durable -- also nike should integrated the SB with a heart rate monitor, add a back light, and make the chip rechargeable or able to be sent in for battery replacement vice having to discard and buy a new one, like i had to do with my ipod nike plus.

Thanks for the warning about the display. I'm about to bag this piece of junk and go back to timex and map measurement. Of 9 runs that I know the rough or exact measurement, the Nike plus has been wrong on 5...and stupid wrong on 2. It doesn't even have a chance on hilly rough terrain. If you run under five on flat ground it seems to do ok ...but I run greater distances and different terrain including mountains and trails. Does not work.

Ok, sportsband number 2 now has leaking pixels after having it for less than three weeks. Off to Niketown to replace it at lunchtime.
This is clearly a design flaw.

I was in the SweatShop this morning and chatted to the manager about how poor the SportBand appears to have been. He remarked that their Nike rep recently told him that the product has been a real nightmare for Nike and that the display was poorly designed and then poorly manufactured. I didn't see any for sale in the shop.... just lots of Garmin and Polar watches.
There is a replacement being developed but it is unlikely to be available until well into 2009, February at the earliest.

Just returned from NikeTown in Oxford Circus and have been told by the manager there that they've stopped selling the sportsband and expect a new version "in the new year" so unfortunately I had to get a refund as there were no replacements available. It's a real shame as it's a great concept. Back to using the Nokia Sports Tracker on my N95 then - I stopped using that as I found the gps on it to be horrible inaccurate when running round central london.
*edit* Just checked the nike website and the sportsband seems to have disappeared from there.
