HOW DO I FIND A ROUTE TO RUN?
You can enter your zip code, address, city, state or country (zip codes give the best result) to find your location. Routes look like flags with mileage amounts. Click one of them and watch the route appear. The DETAILS button will show you all the information you need to know if it’s a route you want to run.
HOW DO I DRAW A ROUTE?
To draw a route, your Nike account must be Nike+ enabled (you have sync'ed a run before).
Start by select DRAW A ROUTE in the upper right of your screen. If you’re not logged in, you’ll be promoted to do it now.
Enter your location and then use the zoom tool to see the streets you want to run.
Click your start point. Every subsequent click you make is a leg of your route. The map recenters automatically as you click through your route. You can also move the map as you draw by dragging your cursor beyond the map or by holding down your mouse to move the map where you want it.
To undo what you’ve drawn, “STEP BACK” or press ESC. To totally restart, START OVER. Once you’re finished drawing, SAVE. You’ll be asked to fill in some information about your route and decide whether you want to make it Public (the community can see it) or Private (only you see it).
SAVE the details and the route will appear in My Routes.
Please know that if you delete a route from My Routes and it was a public route, the community can still view it.
HOW DO I CONNECT A RUN TO A ROUTE?
Go to My Runs and look at a run in detail. Under OPTIONS, you’ll see ASSIGN ROUTE. Select a route from your list to assign it to your run. If you continually run the same route, you’ll be able to track your progress over time.
HOW DO I SEE MY PROGRESS RUNNING A ROUTE?
Once you have more than one run assigned to a route, you can check your progress. In the See All Runs view, there’s a new comparison tool. Click ROUTE in the top row. You’ll be able to select a route from your list and compare all the runs attached to that route.
WHAT ARE SOME TRICKS AND TIPS FOR MAP IT?
• You can double click on the map to zoom in. • You can switch between map view and satellite view on the upper left zoom tool. • When a route is selected, you can “close” the section by clicking on the green route flag or select SHOW ALL ROUTES.
Update: July 1, 2009 Nike+ has removed the satellite option. The standard Map view will remain the same and updates will occur on a regular basis.
HOW DO KEYWORDS WORK?
When you’re saving a route, you get to tag it with keywords. That way, when people can search for routes with the attributes you give it. Separate single words with spaces or commas and put quotes around phrases.
For example:
Hilly Sunny “Central Park” Lakeside
IS MAP IT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF UNITED STATES?
In beta Map It is limited to US Nike+ runners but will be made available other regions as soon as we can, pending local Google Map availability of course!
THERE SEEMS TO BE A LIMIT ON CLICKS / WAYPOINTS PER ROUTE?
As of 2/6/2007, we have bumped the limits to 200 clicks / waypoints per route.
I HAVE A NIKE ACCOUNT, WHY ISN’T THE DRAW ROUTE FEATURE WORKING?
To draw and save a route, your Nike account must be Nike+ enabled. To enable your account, sync at least one run via iTune and your account will automatically be Nike+ enabled.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PUBLIC ROUTE AND A PRIVATE ROUTE?
A PUBLIC ROUTE means all Nike+ users can see your route and the details you provided about it. A PRIVATE ROUTE is a route that exists only in your personal “My routes” list--and it is only visible to you on the map.
Please know that if you make a route public and then delete it, any run other runners have assigned to your route will become unassigned. If you delete a route from “My routes” that you did not create, it will only be removed from your list.
